National Sejong Arboretum joins as official sponsor for first time
Participants to receive combined admission tickets to three national arboretums
The 2026 Hangul Run, co-hosted by Herald Media Group and the Sejong Special Autonomous City to mark the 100th anniversary of Hangul Day's establishment, will for the first time include a course through the National Sejong Arboretum.
Now in its third year, the Hangul Run is Sejong's flagship cultural, sports and tourism program. The race will be held the morning of Oct. 9 — Hangul Day — at Sejong Central Park. Course distances remain unchanged from last year: 10.9 kilometers, symbolizing Hangul Day, and 5.15 kilometers, commemorating the birthday of King Sejong the Great. Participants will set off from the urban festival grounds at Sejong Central Park and run through the surrounding city.
This year, the National Sejong Arboretum is joining as an official sponsor, allowing runners to pass through the arboretum grounds and take in its scenery. The arboretum will also provide every participant with four combined admission tickets — one per person — valid at three national arboretums across the country.
The three national arboretums are the National Sejong Arboretum in Sejong, the National Korean Native Plant Garden in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, and the National Baekdudaegan Arboretum in Bonghwa, North Gyeongsang Province. The tickets are valid through Dec. 31.
Herald Media Group and Sejong City said the new arboretum course will also help ease bottlenecks that occurred at some points during previous events, improving both safety and the overall running experience. Registration opens Wednesday through the event's official website, exactly 100 days before Hangul Day. Further details are available through the Hangul Run's official Instagram account or the organizing secretariat.
Yu Min-sang, head of the Hangul Culture City Division, thanked the National Sejong Arboretum for its support in marking the centennial of Hangul Day. "I hope participants coming from outside the city will get to fully enjoy the beauty of Sejong's landscape," he said.
