Renault Korea rolls out 5th over-the-air update for Grand Koleos

Renault Korea is rolling out the fifth over-the-air (OTA) firmware update for its midsize SUV, the Grand Koleos. The company has been continuously refining the vehicle's software since launch, incorporating customer feedback to improve the product.

Renault Korea announced Tuesday that it is sequentially delivering a firmware over-the-air (FOTA) update to Grand Koleos customers. The update can be installed directly through the vehicle's in-car display, with no trip to a service center required.

Systems covered by the update include the air conditioning control module, driver information module, infotainment head unit and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) unit. Hybrid model owners will also receive improvements to the battery control module and propulsion control module.

The fifth update focuses on reducing inconveniences that customers have flagged during everyday use. Renault Korea said it has optimized the HVAC logic to address intermittent continuous operating noise and has also refined the quality of notification messages and various in-vehicle sounds.

On the driver information module side, the head-up display (HUD) position memory function has been improved and a gear-shift sound effect has been added. The infotainment system gains a welcome sound volume optimization and a new settings menu that allows drivers to reset the engine oil change service reminder.

In the ADAS unit, the lane departure warning assist function has been made easier to configure. Hybrid models benefit from improved accessory power outlet compatibility and stabilized communication for the transmission oil pump.

The update has been rolling out sequentially since Sunday. Eligible vehicles will receive a notification through the in-vehicle "openR Panorama Screen." Drivers can proceed with the installation by pressing the update button on the screen after switching off the ignition.

Renault Korea has used OTA updates to improve quality and add features since the Grand Koleos first went on sale. The first update, in December 2024, adjusted driving assistance, parking assistance and automatic speed limit assist notification volumes based on feedback from early buyers.

A second update in February 2025 improved lane departure warning assist performance, and a third update in May of that year enhanced the automatic speed limit assist function to reflect newly opened expressways along with the convenience of some driving assistance systems. A fourth update in November 2025 applied software improvements from the 2026 Grand Koleos and added an automatic hazard light flashing function when the auto-parking assist feature is in use.

Across the automotive industry, improving performance and convenience features through software updates after a vehicle's launch is becoming increasingly important. As the shift toward software-defined vehicles (SDVs) accelerates, the scope of OTA update capability is widely regarded as a key factor in a vehicle's competitiveness.

Renault Korea said more than 80 percent of all electronic control units (ECUs) installed in the Grand Koleos and the Filante can currently be updated wirelessly. The company plans to continue expanding its FOTA coverage to address customer inconveniences and deliver further feature upgrades.
