Korail Tourism Development expands e-waste recycling in ESG push

Korail Tourism Development is stepping up its ESG management efforts through a resource-circulation drive for discarded electronics, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and advance a circular economy by recycling aging devices in an environmentally responsible way.

The company held the event Tuesday at its headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, as part of its commitment to ESG management and its responsibilities as a public institution.

The initiative, organized with the voluntary participation of employees from Greater Seoul branches and worksites, involves collecting and recycling end-of-life electronics through E-Cycle Governance, a specialized recycling organization, to promote a culture of resource circulation and contribute to environmental conservation.

Discarded devices — including PCs, monitors and printers — are systematically processed through the program, expanding proper disposal and resource recovery while supporting efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions and advance a circular economy.

Building on this event, Korail Tourism Development plans to extend the recycling drive to worksites nationwide in the second half of the year. After each drive, the company will obtain resource-circulation certificates and greenhouse gas reduction certificates to systematically track its ESG performance and strengthen its green management practices.

Lee Woo-hyun, acting chief executive of Korail Tourism Development, said resource circulation is "a core ESG task that public institutions must consistently carry out," adding that the company will "continue to practice eco-friendly management and lead efforts to protect the environment and spread social value through cooperation with E-Cycle Governance."
