District honored as outstanding borough; Jangan 2-dong and welfare officer also recognized
Donations and in-kind gifts reach 1.56 billion won ($1.01 million), surpassing goal by 109.5%
Seoul's Dongdaemun-gu took home three awards at the 2026 Hope Ondol "Warm Winter" project achievement-sharing ceremony held June 24 at the Seoul Community Chest of Korea's Love Fruit Hall, winning recognition as outstanding borough, outstanding administrative dong and meritorious contributor to the warm winter campaign.
The Hope Ondol Warm Winter Project is a flagship winter giving initiative jointly run by the Seoul Community Chest of Korea and the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The ceremony brought together officials from the Seoul Community Chest of Korea, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and all 25 autonomous districts to share project outcomes and commend high-performing organizations and individuals.
Dongdaemun-gu raised 1.56 billion won ($1.01 million) in cash donations and in-kind gifts during the campaign, achieving 109.5 percent of its fundraising target — a record high for the district. The funds and goods were distributed to neighbors in need, including low-income households, elderly people living alone, people with disabilities and vulnerable children.
The district was particularly praised for fostering a culture of giving through the voluntary participation of residents, businesses and civic organizations. Jangan 2-dong received the outstanding administrative dong commendation, and district official Kim Hui-dae was honored as a meritorious contributor to the warm winter campaign.
The district plans to continue identifying new sponsoring organizations and expanding private-sector partnerships to strengthen the 2027 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Project. Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies is also set to join as a new sponsor.
"This award is the result of the warm hearts of the residents, businesses and organizations who came together for neighbors in need," a district official said. "We will continue to strengthen public-private cooperation so that a culture of sharing can take deeper root in our community."
