Jeju Bank files patent for AI-based cash flow forecasting technology, a first among regional banks

Jeju Bank has become the first regional bank in South Korea to file a patent for an AI-based cash flow forecasting model — the core technology behind its corporate financial management service, AI CFO.

Jeju Bank said Tuesday the patent covers technology that integrates a company's enterprise resource planning (ERP) data with financial data to predict future cash inflows and outflows. The technology is the foundational engine of the AI CFO service, which Jeju Bank is co-developing with Douzone Bizon and TechFin Ratings.

The technology combines a company's internal management data — including projected sales and purchases — with financial data to forecast potential cash shortfalls or surpluses. Jeju Bank said it plans to use the patent filing as a springboard to strengthen its AI-driven corporate banking capabilities and expand inclusive finance services.

Small and medium-sized enterprises in South Korea often lack a dedicated chief financial officer, and even those that have adopted ERP systems tend to use them only for accrual accounting and account-classification purposes, leaving them ill-equipped to systematically forecast future cash flows.

As a result, companies can find themselves exposed to the risk of so-called "profitable insolvency" — where a business generating sales and profit still faces a sudden cash crunch. The patent filing is part of Jeju Bank's strategy to differentiate its AI-based corporate finance services and secure an early-mover advantage in the technology.

"This patent filing is a meaningful milestone showing that the core technology behind AI CFO is moving into full-scale service implementation," Jeju Bank President Lee Hee-su said. "We will use AI and data to support systematic cash management for small and medium-sized enterprises and continue expanding digital inclusive finance."
