Emergency responder faces sex crime complaint after performing CPR on unconscious girl

A post by an emergency medical technology student who says he was nearly branded a sex offender after performing CPR on an unconscious girl at a valley stream has gone viral online.

According to News1, the student, identified only as A, posted on an online community Sunday that he holds a first-class emergency medical technician license and was visiting a valley with friends when he came across a girl who appeared to be a middle school student lying unconscious on the ground.

A said he rushed over, obtained consent from the girl's mother and called 119 before beginning CPR himself.

"She had no pulse and was not breathing," he wrote. "With the guardian's consent, I unhooked her bra and performed CPR. Medical staff arrived about 10 to 15 minutes later and took over."

He added that firefighters on the scene told him he had administered first aid correctly, and that the girl was transported to a hospital with her breathing and pulse restored.

Hours later, the girl's father threatened to file a sexual assault complaint over the bra removal and chest contact during CPR. The father also said he would submit a medical certificate showing a cracked rib and demanded a settlement of 5 million to 8 million won ($5,190).

A said he received a police summons to appear for questioning Tuesday morning. "My dream is to become a firefighter, and I'm terrified of being punished or getting a criminal record over something so unjust," he wrote.

A later said the case was closed without charges and that police are now investigating the girl's father on suspicion of obstruction of official duties.
