Members of the Korea Zinc union affiliated with the Federation of Korean Trade Unions chanted slogans Tuesday afternoon at a press conference at Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno-gu, Seoul, demanding that MBK Partners resolve the Homeplus crisis and abandon its hostile takeover attempt of Korea Zinc. Participants from the Korea Zinc union and the Homeplus branch of the Mart Workers' Union — representing the country's two major labor federations — condemned what they called MBK's speculative behavior, accusing the private equity firm of destroying key national industries and driving workers to their deaths.
