Jungnang-gu Honors Veterans and Their Families During Patriots and Veterans Month

Jungnang-gu held its 24th Veterans Unity Event on June 29 at the district office's main auditorium, drawing more than 500 veterans and bereaved family members during Patriots and Veterans Month.

The annual event honors the sacrifice and contributions of veterans and their families who dedicated themselves to the nation, and aims to convey the community's gratitude. First held in 2003, the gathering has grown into Jungnang-gu's signature veterans event, reinforcing the value of national service and fostering pride among veterans' families.

Organized by the Jungnang-gu Veterans Hall Management Council, the event brought together nine local veterans organizations: the Wounded Veterans Association, the Bereaved Families of Fallen Soldiers Association, the War Widows Association, the Order of Military Merit Recipients Association, the Korean War Veterans Association, the Agent Orange Veterans Association, the Special Mission Veterans Association, the Vietnam War Veterans Association and the Liberation Association.

The program opened with a pre-ceremony performance, followed by a commemorative ceremony and a community gathering. During the ceremony, updates on veterans organization activities were shared, and 34 exemplary members who contributed to promoting veterans culture and volunteer work in the community received commendations. A prize raffle and other activities then gave veterans and their families time to socialize and strengthen bonds.

Jungnang-gu has been pursuing a range of veterans welfare policies to enhance support for veterans and their families, including expanding veterans allowances, supporting the operation of the veterans hall and organizing tribute events. In March, the district established a memorial space inscribed with the names of 4,198 war veterans and extended its veterans honor allowance to cover the surviving spouses of deceased veterans, further strengthening its support for veterans and bereaved families.

The district plans to continue promoting veterans culture so that those who dedicated their lives to the nation are respected within the community.

"Today's Republic of Korea was built on the sacrifice and dedication of our veterans," Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "We will do our utmost to uphold the honor of veterans and their families and ensure they receive the recognition and support they deserve."
