Partners to collaborate on concession, PPP projects
'Seeking business opportunities in global market'
Samsung C&T's construction division announced Tuesday it is joining forces with Infroneer Holdings, a Japanese comprehensive infrastructure services company, to expand into the global infrastructure market.
Under the agreement, the two companies will pursue strategic collaboration in concession projects — which involve acquiring and operating public infrastructure — as well as public-private partnership (PPP) ventures. The signing ceremony was held Monday at Infroneer Holdings' headquarters in Tokyo, with senior officials from both sides in attendance.
The two companies plan to create new business opportunities through collaboration on domestic and overseas development and concession projects in Japan, joint pursuit of overseas PPP projects, and co-investment and technology and personnel exchanges. Samsung C&T's extensive EPC experience, management capabilities and global network are expected to complement Infroneer Holdings' business strengths and help both companies lead the global infrastructure development market.
Infroneer Holdings brings engineering capabilities built through its construction business and leads Japan's concession and PPP markets, with projects spanning airports, roads, water and sewage systems, and stadiums.
"We are very pleased to have signed this MOU on strategic cooperation with Samsung C&T," said Kibe Kazunari, president and chief executive officer of Infroneer Holdings. "We expect that by combining the strengths of both companies, we will be able to create even greater added value in the Japanese and global markets."
Oh Se-chul, president and CEO of Samsung C&T, said the MOU would allow the company to combine Infroneer Holdings' investment and development expertise — in line with its strategy of moving beyond EPC — with Samsung C&T's global project execution experience. "We will be able to create diverse business opportunities in Japan and in global markets," he added.
Meanwhile, Samsung C&T is expanding its position as a global developer through its participation in a PPP highway development project in Türkiye. The company has set a target of securing more than 10 trillion won ($6.49 billion) in EPC orders this year.
