Local tax services disrupted; vehicle tax payment deadline extended to July 3

A technical failure in the national local tax system has delayed both online and in-person local tax processing since 9 a.m. Tuesday, prompting the responsible ministry to begin restoration work.

The Ministry of Interior and Safety said Tuesday it is taking steps to minimize the impact on local governments and front-line operations.

The payment deadline for vehicle tax and other local taxes has been extended to July 3, and taxpayers who pay within the extended period will not face penalties or surcharges.

All local tax items — including acquisition tax — with filing or payment deadlines falling between June 26 and July 2 will now be accepted through July 3.

The issuance of local tax payment certificates required for real estate registration and similar purposes has been temporarily suspended; taxpayers may file and pay once the system is restored. Those with urgent needs can visit their local tax office to submit filings manually.

"We will closely examine the cause of the failure, actively communicate with local governments and front-line offices, and do our utmost to stabilize the local tax system as quickly as possible," the ministry said.
