Mapo-gu District Mayor Yu Dong-gyun kicked off his ninth elected term Tuesday morning by paying his respects at Seoul National Cemetery before heading to the district office, where he joined staff at a slogan unveiling ceremony in the plaza to mark the start of the new administration.
The slogan for the ninth elected term — "Mapo on the Move Again! A Future We Build Together" — reflects residents' hopes for a revitalized Mapo. It also embodies Yu's commitment to driving progress through AI-driven administrative innovation, with the goal of making this a term in which every resident feels happy now and looks forward to an even better future.
Yu then made his first field visit of the new term, heading to the Mangwon Retention Basin and Mangwon No. 1 Stormwater Pumping Station.
The choice of venue reflects Yu's longstanding practice of walking through neighborhoods, listening directly to residents and examining local issues firsthand — a signal that he intends to keep public safety as his top priority.
Accompanied by staff from the relevant departments, Yu inspected the pumping station's key facilities, reviewed their operational status and maintenance conditions, and checked emergency protocols and disaster preparedness measures in the event of heavy rainfall.
He also called on staff to strengthen on-site response capabilities and adopt a prevention-first approach to safety management, given the increasing frequency of localized downpours driven by extreme weather, so that residents can feel secure in their daily lives.
"I will find answers in the field so that the trust and choice residents placed in me for this ninth term are never in vain, and I will repay them with tangible change and results they can feel," Yu said. "I will do my utmost so that every resident can personally experience the transformation of a Mapo on the move again."
