Labor economics and employment insurance expert previously served as public-interest member of minimum wage panel
The Korea Labor Institute announced Tuesday that it has appointed Oh Sang-bong, a senior research fellow at its Social Policy Research Division, as its new deputy director.
Oh earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Sogang University, followed by a master's degree in economics from the same institution and a doctorate in economics from Rutgers University in the United States.
Since joining the Korea Labor Institute in 2013, he has led research in labor markets and social policy, serving as head of the trend analysis office, director of the Employment Safety Net Research Center and head of the Social Policy Research Division.
A specialist in labor-related social policy, Oh has served as a member of the just transition council for the power generation industry, a member of the employment insurance operations expert committee and a public-interest member of the Minimum Wage Commission. He currently sits on the Ministry of Employment and Labor's policy advisory committee, the income and employment expert committee under the Basic Society Committee, and the living wage committee of North Chungcheong Province.
His primary research areas are labor economics and employment insurance.
