Inauguration held at Yongsan Arts Hall on Wednesday, drawing about 700 residents
Kim outlines development and safety as twin pillars of his ninth elected-term administration, pledging to be a 'district mayor who goes to the scene first'
Kim Gyeong-dae was officially inaugurated as district mayor of Seoul's Yongsan-gu on Wednesday, declaring that he would "start unstoppable Yongsan development right now."
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at the main hall of Yongsan Arts Hall, Kim laid out development, safety, global competitiveness and inclusive welfare as the core pillars of his ninth elected-term administration. He said his first official act that day was to establish a "Yongsan Development Rapid Promotion Officer" unit directly under the district mayor's office, adding that he would "accelerate Yongsan's future through swift development administration."
About 700 people attended the ceremony to mark the launch of the ninth elected term, including National Assembly member Kwon Young-se, city and district council members, heads of affiliated agencies and civic organizations, and local residents. The event opened with a rendition of the national anthem led by Lim Hyeong-ju, chairman of the Yongsan Culture Foundation, and proceeded through a special video titled "A Departure Filled with Residents' Hopes," the inaugural oath, the inaugural address, congratulatory remarks and a celebratory performance.
Before delivering his address, Kim bowed deeply to the audience in a traditional gesture of gratitude. He then said he would "always be a district mayor of unity who embraces all residents," pledging to lead the ninth-term administration "on the basis of administration faithful to its core mission and a healthy organizational culture."
Kim said the Yongsan that the ninth elected term would build is "a city where growth and safety are in balance," and presented four core tasks for his administration: accelerating local change through bold development, putting residents' safety first in all administrative decisions, creating a global city that the world visits and stays in, and realizing an inclusive city where no one is left behind.
He added that he would "continue to be a district mayor who goes to the scene first," saying he would pursue field-centered administration by "directly listening to and resolving everything from complex local issues to small everyday inconveniences."
Kim is scheduled to visit key project sites in the district on Thursday and Friday — the first and second days after his inauguration — marking his first field outings since the launch of the ninth elected term.
