July 3–5... deaf athletes and recreational players gather nationwide
Sports event promotes exchange and unity across regions, with 3 competitive and 4 recreational events
The 23rd National Deaf Sports Festival, bringing together deaf athletes and recreational sports enthusiasts from across the country, will be held over three days in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, from July 3 to 5.
Organized and hosted by the Korea Deaf Sports Federation, the event aims to expand opportunities for deaf people nationwide to participate in sports and to foster inter-regional exchange and unity through athletic competition.
The festival will feature seven events in total, divided between a competitive division and a recreational division focused on lifestyle sports. The competitive division will include badminton, bowling and table tennis, with participants showcasing the skills they have honed in venue-specific competitions.
The recreational division will offer four events — gateball, schlagen, screen golf and baseball — giving deaf recreational players a chance to test their abilities and share in the enjoyment of sport.
Particularly notable this year is the simultaneous operation of both the competitive and recreational divisions, which broadens the base of participation in deaf sports. Participants will use the games to assess their skills while building camaraderie with athletes and enthusiasts who have traveled from across the country.
The National Deaf Sports Festival is a nationwide sporting event where deaf athletes and recreational players connect and come together through sport. Now in its 23rd year, the festival is expected to raise awareness of deaf sports and contribute to the promotion of recreational athletic activity.
The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation and the Korea Paralympic Committee.
