District mayor replaces traditional protocol event with staff assembly, emphasizing field-centered, communicative governance
More than 410 employees at grade 6 and above attend to share seven core goals for the ninth elected-term administration
Dedicated units including a subway promotion team and public complaint office established directly under the district mayor
Yangcheon-gu said Tuesday that District Mayor Lee Ki-jae would begin the first day of the ninth elected-term administration without a separate inauguration ceremony or vision presentation, opening instead with a staff assembly as his first official engagement.
The decision reflects Lee's firm commitment to concentrating organizational capacity on policy execution rather than conventional protocol events, cutting unnecessary formalities to minimize administrative waste and deliver tangible results that residents can feel.
The staff assembly brought together more than 410 employees at grade 6 and above — the backbone of the organization — to share the district's governing goals and key priorities for the ninth elected term, with each department pledging its commitment to implementation.
At the assembly, Lee outlined the "seven core goals of the ninth elected term" that will guide Yangcheon-gu's "uninterrupted development" over the next four years, stressing field-centered administration and active communication with residents.
The ninth elected-term administration will pursue seven goals: a convenient city, a green future city, an economically vibrant city, a safe city, a premium education city, an enjoyable city and a warm city.
Expanding the urban rail network is set as the top priority, with plans to actively revive the Seonam Line (formerly the Mokdong Line), the Gangbuk Transverse Line, and the Sinjeong branch extension to Gimpo. The district also aims to accelerate 66 urban renewal projects — including reconstruction and redevelopment zones — to boost the city's competitiveness and residential quality.
The district also plans to build business infrastructure to secure future growth engines, expand support for residents affected by airport noise, realize an education special zone, offer diverse leisure programs, and deliver effective, tailored welfare — all in pursuit of "a better city to live in, a Yangcheon with an even brighter tomorrow."
To strengthen execution of key ninth elected-term projects, the district will establish and operate dedicated units directly under the district mayor starting Tuesday.
A subway promotion team will be set up first to handle expansion of the urban rail network, overseeing progress management, coordination with relevant agencies and strategy development.
A public complaint office will also be established to proactively coordinate and manage major resident grievances, strengthen direct communication with residents, and swiftly resolve everyday inconveniences through field-centered administration.
"Rather than focusing on grand formalities, I want the ninth elected term to be filled with substantive governance that looks more deeply into the lives of residents," Lee said. "I will strip away unnecessary pomp and concentrate all our capacity on swiftly advancing policies aimed solely at Yangcheon's development and the happiness of its residents."
