Shoo (45), a member of K-pop group S.E.S., has revealed that she and her husband have been living separately for four years.
Shoo appeared Friday on MBN's talk show "Sokpuri Show Dongchimi," where she spoke about choosing separation over divorce as a way to live life on her own terms.
She said her husband, former basketball player Lim Hyo-sung, rents a separate home near the family's house. "He lives his own life and comes over on weekends. We're in the same neighborhood. We're both comfortable with the arrangement right now," she said. "On weekends we get together, grill samgyeopsal and go on trips." She was clear that the two are not on bad terms.
Shoo also cited the toll of living together as a factor in her decision. "It was really hard being together all the time — there was a lot of nagging, and things had been building up inside me," she said. She added that she never wanted her children to see their parents fight.
She said the separation has actually brought them closer. In a lighter moment, she laughed and said her husband sometimes reminds her of actor Kim Nam-gil from behind — a celebrity she is a fan of.
Shoo also opened up about her mental health struggles after becoming a mother. "After I got married and had children, I lost myself — no one was looking after me — and I developed depression and claustrophobia. I couldn't sleep, and there were moments when I suddenly just wanted to run away," she said.
Shoo married Lim Hyo-sung in 2010. The couple have three children — one son and two daughters.
