Two hikers were seriously injured in separate falls at Seoraksan National Park this weekend.
A woman in her 60s fell about 15 meters near Dumun Falls in the Buk-myeon area of Inje-gun, Gangwon Province, at around 11:40 a.m. Sunday, according to Yonhap News Agency.
She is believed to have sustained fractures and was conscious when rescuers reached her.
Special rescue teams from the National Park Service and the 119 rescue unit transported her by stretcher to a nearby hospital after deteriorating weather prevented helicopter access.
On Saturday at 2:55 p.m., a man in his 60s was struck by a falling rock and tumbled more than 10 meters down a cliff face on Huiyabong peak in Seolak-dong, Sokcho. He suffered injuries to his head and back and was airlifted to a large hospital in Wonju.
A Gangwon Province fire department official urged hikers to take extra care on rocky debris fields, steep slopes and slab sections without safety ropes, saying accidents occur frequently in those areas.
