Yeongdeungpo-gu will operate four outdoor water play parks through Aug. 30, giving residents a cool summer escape without leaving the city, district mayor Jo Yu-jin said.
The district's park water play areas have become a go-to summer destination for residents each year, offering a waterpark-like experience without the need to travel far from home.
The four sites now open are Yeongdeungpo Park (Yeongdeungpo-bon-dong), Mokhwa Village Yard (Mullae-dong), Wonji Children's Park (Daelim 3-dong) and Sinwoo Children's Park (Daelim 3-dong). Gangmaul Children's Park in Dangsan 2-dong is set to open as an additional site sometime in July.
Each facility is equipped with water-jet tunnels, water slides and pools. The shallow water depth makes them safe for toddlers, and rest areas and other amenities on the park grounds allow the whole family to relax together.
The district is paying close attention to safety and hygiene so residents can use the facilities with peace of mind. Two-person safety teams trained in CPR by the Korean Red Cross will be stationed on site at all times, and the water will be replaced daily. Water quality tests will be conducted every 15 days, with regular disinfection and floating-debris checks carried out throughout the season.
The parks will operate through Aug. 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the school vacation period (July 25–Aug. 16), the parks will be open on weekdays except Mondays as well as on weekends, making it easier for residents to visit with their children on weekdays. Outside the vacation period, the parks will open on weekends only.
"I hope our children can spend a fun and refreshing summer vacation at the park water play areas without having to go far," district mayor Jo said. "We will manage the facilities with care so children can enjoy the water in a clean and safe environment."
