Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province has claimed top honors at three major domestic tourism fairs this year.
The provincial government and the Gangwon Tourism Foundation announced Monday that they won the grand prize in the content category at the 11th Korea International Tourism Show (KITS).
The latest award follows a grand prize at the My Country Travel Fair in March and another at the Korea Representative Festival Expo in April, completing a sweep of the country's major tourism exhibitions this year.
The 11th KITS ran from July 3 to 5 at Hall 2 of KINTEX in Ilsan, showcasing tourism content from across the country. A total of 223 domestic and international tourism organizations and local governments participated, operating 451 booths.
Gangwon Province operated an interactive promotional pavilion under the theme "Summer Playlist, Gangwon!" to introduce summer tourist attractions, local festivals and food, encouraging visitors to choose the province — widely regarded as South Korea's top summer vacation destination.
The pavilion drew particular attention for its focused promotion of July's recommended destinations: Mindungsan Dolline in Jeongseon and the Mureungbyeol Yucheonji wetland and Mangsan Beach in Donghae, with quiz events tied to those sites proving especially popular among visitors.
Lee Dong-hui, director of tourism for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, said the fair had been "a great opportunity to showcase Gangwon's outstanding tourism resources" and pledged to "further elevate Gangwon's standing as South Korea's premier tourist destination."
