E-mart24 launches eel dosirak, chicken samgyetang ahead of Chobok

Amid the onset of summer heat, E-mart24 announced Monday it will release a lineup of products featuring eel and other summer stamina-food ingredients ahead of Chobok, the first of the three hottest days on the traditional Korean lunar calendar.

The new products are an eel chirashi sushi dosirak — inspired by the classic Japanese home-style dish — and an eel kimbap made with thick freshwater eel and rolled egg. Both go on sale Tuesday. Customers who pre-order through the E-mart24 app from Tuesday through July 31 can receive a half-price discount.

The eel chirashi sushi dosirak takes its cue from chirashi sushi, a Japanese dish whose name means "scattered." It layers eel, squid, shrimp, flying fish roe, pickled red ginger and fresh wasabi over a bed of sushi rice. The eel kimbap combines freshwater eel with Japanese-style rolled egg and cucumber. E-mart24 also plans to release a ready-to-eat samgyetang product — "Tongdakdari Samgyetang," featuring a whole chicken leg — on July 10, ahead of the traditional holiday when Koreans eat the ginseng chicken soup for its restorative properties.
