South Chungcheong forest institute to resume tours in August for late-season fireflies
South Chungcheong Province's Forest Resources Research Institute has concluded its firefly night ecology tour program at Anmyeondo Arboretum, the institute announced Monday.
The program was open to visitors at Anmyeondo Natural Recreation Forest and Anmyeondo Arboretum, aiming to raise awareness about natural ecosystem conservation and expand access to forest education.
Timed to coincide with the peak appearance season of the small firefly species in June, the program drew 111 participants.
The program let participants observe firefly habitats and behavior firsthand, with ecological commentary highlighting the value of natural ecosystems and the importance of environmental conservation. Participants responded enthusiastically to the rare opportunity to observe and interact with fireflies up close.
Throughout the program, the institute provided systematic safety management and ecological interpretation, ensuring a safe and substantive experience for all participants.
With the small firefly season now over, the institute will suspend the program this month before resuming the night ecology tours in August to coincide with the appearance of late-season firefly species.
"We will continue to develop a wide range of forest education and ecological experience programs making use of the outstanding forest resources at Anmyeondo Arboretum," said Lee Jae-hyeon, head of the institute's Taean office. "We will do our utmost to provide residents and visitors with ever higher-quality forest education and recreation services."
