Daejeon boosts two-way communication with residents through 'Comment Square' initiative

Daejeon city is strengthening two-way communication with residents through its official social media channels, including Instagram.

The city announced Monday that "Comment Square," a citizen engagement project run on its official social media accounts, continues to draw strong public interest and participation. The project aligns with the city's governing slogan, "Our Daejeon for All, Citizens Fully Happy."

Operating under the theme "What We Want from Daejeon's Ninth Elected Administration," Comment Square collects unfiltered public feedback on city governance — both positive and negative — along with suggestions, excluding only profanity.

The project has drawn largely favorable responses, with residents noting that the city appears to be making genuine efforts to listen to citizens in a variety of ways. The comment section has been active with messages of support for the new administration as well as a wide range of opinions and ideas covering youth issues, employment, transportation and other areas of city governance.

Daejeon city plans to use AI software to categorize submitted comments by morpheme and analyze positive and negative sentiment for statistical purposes. The most frequently mentioned keywords will be visualized and compiled alongside popular comments into card-news posts published on the city's official social media channels each month. The analysis results will also serve as policy reference material for city administration.

Daejeon Mayor Heo Tae-jeong said the city would actively incorporate the public voices gathered through Comment Square into the operation of the ninth elected administration. "We will continue to pursue genuine two-way communication that citizens can truly feel," he said.
