Yeongwol-gun, a county whose residents have rallied for five centuries around the tragic story of a boy king, has launched a platform to let young people drive its community culture.
According to Yeongwol-gun on Sunday, the county is home to a youth support space called Cheongjeongjidae, where officials held the inaugural ceremony for "Social Connect Yeongwol," a public-private youth community. The county declared it was moving to build "a youth-led, sustainable network."
"While past youth projects focused on building individual capabilities, Social Connect Yeongwol is a collaborative platform where young people connect with one another to create greater synergy," county chief Kim Gil-su said. "We will actively support young people so their diverse ideas can take shape locally, and work to make Yeongwol a place where youth stay and grow."
Social Connect Yeongwol was established as a public-private collaborative platform linking youth networking with policy participation, drawing on the results of various youth support projects carried out to date. The initiative aims to strengthen individual capabilities while building a cooperative foundation for young people to grow alongside the community.
The platform expands on existing youth networks by broadening participation beyond local entrepreneurs, community activists and workers to include young people from outside the county who hope to settle in Yeongwol, enabling sustained communication and collaboration.
At the inaugural ceremony, participants formed youth networking groups and small teams, pledging to maintain substantive exchange and cooperation through regular networking sessions, projects tied to Youth Day and performance-sharing workshops.
Social Connect Yeongwol is also expected to boost the profile of the Gangwon Youth Dance Festival, which holds its preliminary round on July 16 and its final on July 31.
