Samsung Fire announced Sunday the launch of a new national health insurance product called "Ontong Bojang" (ON), which covers treatment costs for major illnesses including cancer, cerebrovascular and heart disease, as well as liver, lung, kidney and musculoskeletal conditions.
The product builds on core coverage for cancer, brain and heart conditions and extends it to liver, lung, kidney and musculoskeletal disease treatment costs. A key design feature is its "integrated coverage" structure, which manages benefit amounts across six disease categories, letting customers apply remaining coverage toward treatment costs or other purposes.
The liver, lung and kidney treatment benefit covers transplant surgery, resection surgery and high-frequency procedures, and includes intensive care unit hospitalization. The musculoskeletal treatment benefit newly covers arthroscopic and non-arthroscopic surgeries, as well as specific stem cell treatments for severe knee cartilage damage.
Another notable feature is the "integrated coverage residual amount" structure. Customers receive treatment cost coverage within their enrolled benefit amount, and a set portion of any remaining balance can also be applied toward accidental death benefits. The benefit amount resets to the original enrollment level every 10 years, and customers can check their remaining balance in real time through the Monimo app.
Samsung Fire also strengthened post-treatment recovery support services. On top of existing hospital accompaniment and dementia genetic testing services, the company added a new care worker support service providing home nursing care and housekeeping assistance.
The product offers multiple enrollment options. A standard health disclosure plan is available for customers with no history of hospitalization or surgery, while a simplified disclosure plan allows those with pre-existing conditions to enroll as well. Customers can choose between renewable and non-renewable terms, and premiums are kept lower through a no-surrender-value structure.
"This new product offers broad coverage for treatment costs across the major illnesses our customers care most about, while also addressing recovery and care needs after treatment," a Samsung Fire official said. "We will continue to introduce products and services that provide real, practical support in line with the evolving healthcare environment and the risks customers face at each stage of life."
Meanwhile, Samsung Fire has been stepping up its competitiveness in the national health insurance market, having launched the "Bi·Tong·Chi" and "Sun·Tong·Chi" products last month, which expanded treatment cost limits for cancer and circulatory conditions, with a focus on higher coverage caps and repeatable benefits.
