The National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are jointly hosting a workshop on "Digital Health-Based Management of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and Mental Health" in Seoul and Wonju from Sunday through Thursday.
The workshop is part of a capacity-building project the two organizations are advancing to help achieve UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 — promoting healthy lives and well-being for all generations.
The program examines how South Korea has integrated chronic disease policy with digital technology, offering participants a mix of lectures and field visits designed to inform policy development in their home countries.
Participants will attend sessions on key policy strategies, including the sixth National Health Promotion Comprehensive Plan (Health Plan 2030, 2026–2030), case studies on digital chronic disease management, and the national health screening system.
Field visits are planned to the NHIS headquarters, the Health Insurance Senior-Friendly Research Center in Wonju, a community health center, the Seoul Metropolitan Government's regional mental health support center, and a private-sector digital chronic disease management company.
NHIS acting president Eom Ho-yun said in his opening remarks that the workshop is "a meaningful occasion to share South Korea's advanced digital health capabilities and national health insurance experience." He added that he hopes it will serve as "an opportunity for substantive cooperation to strengthen health capacity across the Asia-Pacific region, going beyond simple education."
