Fast food worker writes 'How many burgers can you eat?' on receipt, sparking outrage

A fast food restaurant has come under fire after a customer received a receipt bearing what appeared to be a mocking handwritten note from a staff member.

The incident came to light recently when a post titled "Why I gave a burger place a one-star review" appeared on an online community forum.

The author, identified only as A, shared a photo of the receipt and claimed the restaurant had left a message that felt like it was mocking her.

The receipt, totaling 42,800 won ($28) in burgers and combo meals, had the phrase "Haem-choe-myeot?" written in red pen above the order — an internet slang term meaning "What's the maximum number of burgers you can eat?"

A said she was furious. "I don't know if it was a part-timer or the owner, but did they really think this was funny?" she wrote.

She explained that she had ordered multiple burgers because she enjoys them and planned to share them with her family, keeping extras in the refrigerator to eat one at a time while busy looking after her baby. "Seeing it written like that in red pen made me feel terrible," she said.

She also questioned why anyone would care how many burgers she ordered, arguing that a restaurant should welcome large orders. "It's such a shame that paying for food with my own money made me feel this way," she added.

She went on to say that if the store wrote it to be funny, it completely failed, and that she would not be ordering from there again.

Online commenters largely criticized the restaurant, with many saying a thank-you note would have been more appropriate, that humor should never be attempted with a stranger, and that staff need not go out of their way for customers but should at least avoid offending them. Some, however, defended the restaurant, suggesting the employee may have meant it as a lighthearted joke and that the customer was blowing the incident out of proportion.
