Dongjak-gu (district mayor Ryu Sam-young) will run a "Family Robot Experience Campus" to nurture future digital talent and spread AI literacy among residents.
The district said 608 people took part in last year's Robot Experience Campus, with strong demand from family participants. This year, it has designed a new family-oriented program in response.
The program targets elementary school students and their parents in the district and will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on July 18 at the 5th-floor conference hall of the Dongjak-gu District Office.
Participants will take part in a range of hands-on activities: controlling the humanoid AI robot Pibo, practicing motion, voice, display and sensor recognition through block coding, and building their own personalized robot companion for home use.
Applications are accepted from July 8 through July 15 via the Dongjak-gu integrated reservation system or the QR code on the event poster. Fifty spots — for elementary students and their parents, two per team and 25 teams in total — will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The district has also set up a Smart Robot Zone and AI Digital Learning Zone inside Dongjak Star Park on the first below-ground floor of the district office building, giving visitors direct hands-on access to AI and robots as part of its broader push to promote smart technology among residents.
The Smart Robot Zone and AI Digital Learning Zone feature four types of advanced robots — including a guide robot, a patrol robot and a humanoid robot — along with six AI devices such as a smart walking system, an AI coding robot and an AI robot Go set. Any resident visiting the district office may use the zones free of charge without a reservation.
"I hope this Robot Experience Campus gives families a chance to learn and connect together while becoming more comfortable with future technology," district mayor Ryu said. "We will continue to expand AI experience programs so that anyone can encounter cutting-edge technology in their daily lives and discover new possibilities."
