'Visiting SNU-ro' runs Wednesday through July 16
Siheung, led by Mayor Lim Byeong-taek, launched "Visiting SNU-ro" on Wednesday, a public-university partnership education program run in collaboration with Seoul National University, covering 112 classes across 12 middle and high schools in the city. The city is also accepting applications through July 17 for the "SNU-ro Boot Camp," a separate intensive program scheduled during the summer vacation.
Running Wednesday through July 16, "Visiting SNU-ro" sends current Seoul National University students to schools as mentors, where they engage directly with students on career planning.
The mentors introduce their majors and campus life and help students map out their career paths. During a question-and-answer session, they also offer practical advice on choosing a major, preparing for university entrance exams and overcoming academic slumps.
The "SNU-ro Boot Camp" targets first- and second-year high school students in Siheung and takes place at the Education Cooperation Building on Seoul National University's Siheung campus. The two-day program runs over two cohorts — the 9th cohort July 21-22 and the 10th cohort July 23-24 — and is designed for students to work intensively with SNU mentors on academics and career planning. Sessions cover time management and study habits, effective note-taking and learning strategies, and university and career planning. Each cohort accepts up to 80 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
The city said it expects the programs to help students explore their career options in concrete terms and chart their own course based on their aptitudes and academic goals.
"We hope this public-university partnership program with Seoul National University will help students design their career paths in a concrete way," a city official said. "We will continue to run a variety of education programs that support students' growth and career exploration."
