GS Retail announced Wednesday that it held an AI transformation (AX) field case-sharing event as part of its push to drive on-site AI adoption across the organization.
The event took place Monday at GS Tower in Seoul's Yeoksam district, drawing about 150 executives and key division leaders through a combination of in-person and online participation. Attendees shared AX initiatives GS Retail has pursued and discussed how employees' hands-on AI experiences can be built upon.
GS Retail supported AI innovation across various business units in the first half of the year through training, coaching and internal interest groups. The cases presented at the event were not large-scale, company-led projects. They were efforts by frontline employees who identified problems in their own work and developed AI-driven solutions themselves.
Notable examples included a store diagnosis site that uses AI to help boost sales performance at individual locations, a store impact analysis system that examines each store's unique commercial district and operating environment, and a quick-commerce delivery quality dashboard that identifies viable delivery zones for each store. The event also introduced the operational foundations needed to expand field-driven AX into broader organizational capabilities.
GS Retail is preparing a "sandbox" environment where employees can safely test and share their AI-generated outputs, a "data village" that continuously accumulates data in formats optimized for AI use, and common technical standards to improve system consistency and stability. The company is also launching a training program to develop field-oriented engineers — known as FDEs, or Forward Deployed Engineers — who can identify AX opportunities within the organization and lead their execution.
GS Retail plans to use the event as a springboard to advance its AX strategy from "identifying best practices" to "building organizational assets." Kim Hak-min, head of GS Retail's AI and data division, said the company would "build and provide the necessary environment — including data, systems and support — so that frontline AX efforts can move forward faster."
