The Samcheok City Hall handball team, one of the top squads in the country, has donated a scholarship fund to support local youth education, drawing praise for its community spirit.
According to Samcheok city officials, the team visited the mayor's office Tuesday to present a hometown scholarship contribution aimed at nurturing local talent.
Director Lee Gye-cheong and all 21 players on the roster pooled the donation together, hoping it would benefit the young people who will lead the region's future.
"The players came together wanting to give back to the citizens who have cheered us on, and to practice the spirit of sharing with our community," Lee said. "As a handball team that grows alongside Samcheok, we are deeply honored to take part in this meaningful act of giving."
Samcheok Mayor Park Sang-su thanked the team for its generosity. "We are grateful to the players and staff of the Samcheok City Hall handball team for this precious contribution," he said. "We will put it to good use in nurturing local talent in Samcheok."
