Taihan Cable & Solution wins Australian AI data center power grid project worth W45b

Taihan Cable & Solution announced Wednesday it has won a turnkey contract to build an AI data center power grid in Australia, awarded by Transgrid, the country's largest transmission authority. The contract is valued at about 45 billion won ($29.4 million).

The project aims to provide stable, large-scale power to an AI data center under construction in Australia. Taihan Cable & Solution will build a 330-kilovolt cable system on a turnkey basis.

AI data centers operate around the clock and require infrastructure capable of reliably supporting high power demands. Taihan Cable & Solution was selected after competing against leading global firms, drawing on its expertise in extra-high-voltage cables and its experience on international projects.

The company has built a strong track record across the Oceania region, completing multiple projects in Australia and New Zealand. Particularly notable are its successful delivery of a 500kV project — the highest voltage among underground cables commercially deployed in Australia — and a 330kV cable system for Powering Sydney's Future, a program to expand Sydney's power grid.

"AI data centers demand a high level of technical capability and project execution experience, given the critical need for stable power supply," a company official said. "We will use this contract as a springboard to further strengthen our push into global AI data center and other high-value power infrastructure markets."

Meanwhile, Taihan Cable & Solution continues to secure contracts on the back of growing global demand for power infrastructure. Last month, the company signed a deal with Singapore's power authority to supply 400kV and 230kV oilfield extra-high-voltage cable systems.
