Agriculture minister heads to Mongolia to boost farming ties, K-food exports

Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mi-ryeong is visiting Mongolia to strengthen bilateral agricultural cooperation and expand export markets for K-food.

Song is traveling to Mongolia Wednesday through Thursday to carry out a schedule focused on deepening agricultural ties and boosting K-food exports.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Song will meet with Mongolian Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Iderbat Tsagaankhuu on Wednesday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral agricultural cooperation. A key focus will be revising the agricultural cooperation memorandum of understanding signed in 2016 — the first update in a decade — to broaden the scope of collaboration. The two sides also plan to share outcomes from official development assistance projects in the livestock and veterinary sectors.

Song will also discuss ways to expand Korean fresh agricultural products' entry into the Mongolian market and request cooperation to boost local consumption.

Song will also take her K-food export push to the field. Mongolian imports of K-food have grown about 16 percent over the past five years (2020–2025). She plans to introduce Korean "ssam" vegetable culture and seasonal fruit desserts, then visit a local K-convenience store to sample ready-to-eat meals made with Korean ingredients alongside young Mongolians and hear their views.
