LG Uplus donates W5m to families of children with developmental disabilities

LG Uplus has donated funds to families of children with developmental disabilities in observance of the Day for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, through its employee-driven giving program "Cheonwon-ui Sarang" ("1,000 Won of Love").

The company said Wednesday it delivered about 5 million won ($3,260) raised through the in-house program to families selected in partnership with the Miral Welfare Foundation.

LG Uplus said the support was intended to ease the financial burden on families caring for children who face both severe disabilities and serious medical conditions requiring ongoing treatment.

"1,000 Won of Love" is an internal program in which employees choose to donate at least 1,000 won per month through payroll deductions. The company said the program has steadily supported those in need — including children with disabilities and Korean War veterans — through small but consistent contributions. Cumulative donations have reached approximately 320 million won to date.

The recipient of this round of support is a 10-year-old boy with both a severe brain condition and a developmental disability, requiring frequent hospital visits. His breathing is unstable and he has experienced repeated medical emergencies, while his family has faced significant financial strain from prolonged treatment costs and caregiving demands.

LG Uplus added that the boy experiences severe muscle spasms even with minor movement, making daily life difficult, and that his medical and living expenses have been steadily mounting.

The company said it plans to continue providing practical support through "1,000 Won of Love" to families in crisis who struggle to afford treatment, and to help children access stable rehabilitation care.

"We hope the small contributions our employees have voluntarily made will be of some help to families with disabilities and their young children who have fallen through the cracks," said Kim Jong-un, a senior member of the AI service planning team. "We will continue to share our warmth with those who need it."

Ko Seong-won, head of the fundraising division at the Miral Welfare Foundation, said the donations from LG Uplus employees would help families of children with disabilities struggling with treatment costs. "The foundation will carry out this project transparently and diligently to ensure the support reaches the child in a meaningful way," Ko said.
