Yongsan-gu District Chief Kim Gyeong-dae attended a summer wellness food delivery ceremony for senior residents at the Yongmun-dong Community Center (13 Saechang-ro 12-gil) on Tuesday, showing his support for local elderly residents during the summer heat.
The Yongmun-dong Senior Welfare Support Association, chaired by Ahn Byeong-ung, organized the event to mark Chobok — the first of the three hottest days of the lunar calendar — and to check in on elderly residents vulnerable to extreme heat by providing summer health food sets. A total of 200 low-income residents aged 65 and older living in Yongmun-dong received the sets. Similar Boknal events are being held across neighborhoods throughout the district, running from Tuesday in Itaewon 1-dong through Aug. 14 in Wonhyo 1-dong.
About 100 people attended the ceremony, including District Chief Kim, Association Chair Ahn and local senior residents. The program included introductions of guests, remarks, the food delivery and a commemorative photo. The association chair presented the wellness food sets directly to a representative of the senior attendees, underscoring the community's wish for the elderly to stay healthy through the summer.
"I hope this provides even a small measure of help for our seniors as they navigate the relentless summer heat," Kim said. "We will continue to look after our elderly residents with care and work with the community to ensure that warm support remains uninterrupted."
