Man laughs 'Aren't I cute?' while killing friend in Gyeongsan apartment

A man in his 20s brutally killed a friend while the two were drinking together in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province.

The Gyeongsan Police Station said Tuesday it had detained a man identified only as A, in his 20s, on murder charges. A is accused of stabbing his friend, identified as B, multiple times with a bladed weapon at his apartment in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, at around 4 a.m. Saturday.

A is believed to have bitten B's face and assaulted him before stabbing him to death.

According to JTBC's crime news program Sageon Banjang on Tuesday, B called another friend for help just moments before he was killed.

In a recording of that call, B pleaded, "I'll really stay still" and "It hurts so much," while A could be heard laughing and saying, "How cute am I?" and "Mwahahaha."

Alarmed by what they heard, the friends rushed to the scene, where they found blood from the building's main entrance through the hallway and into the elevator.

The friends forced their way into A's apartment by kicking the door open, but A was not inside. B was already without a pulse or breath. In another room, a third person who had been drinking with A and B was found asleep.

Shortly afterward, A returned to the apartment naked and covered in blood. When a friend asked what had happened, A handed over 20 million won ($13,100) in cash and a luxury watch, saying "Please give these to my mother," then tried to flee through an emergency exit. Police who responded to a report of the incident arrested him.

A had also visited a nearby convenience store in the nude shortly after killing B. A store employee said A had nothing on, was covered in tattoos across his entire body, picked up two banana milks and left — and that blood was found on the floor after he walked out. A is believed to have taken a straw with him, drunk the banana milk, then returned to the apartment.

A reportedly refused to give a full account of the incident, saying only, "I was drinking with my friend and talking about worries about the future. I don't remember anything after that." Police administered a preliminary drug test on A, which came back negative.

A friend said A tended to turn violent when drunk. "If someone tried to stop him, he would assault that person even more severely," the friend said.
