Daegu mayor says citizen leaders who learn and act will build city's better future

Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho attended the opening ceremony of the Daegu Future Women's Academy on Tuesday at the Daegu Happiness Promotion Social Service Agency, offering his support for the launch of the program's 12th cohort.

The ceremony drew about 100 attendees, including Daegu City Council Speaker Im In-hwan, Buk-gu District Chief Lee Geun-su, Daegu Miraein Women's Association President Baek Ran-suk, founding chairwoman Kim Hye-gyeong, and other guests alongside program participants and members.

The Daegu Future Women's Academy is a women's leadership education program run by the Daegu Miraein Women's Association. Since its founding in 2011, the program has produced 365 women leaders and contributed to strengthening women's capacity in the local community.

The 12th cohort will run for four months from July through October, offering 11 sessions covering topics tailored to contemporary challenges, including communication, women's safety, economics and leadership.

In his congratulatory address, Choo said, "Daegu's better tomorrow is built together with citizen leaders who learn and put that learning into practice." He added that he hoped the academy would serve as a springboard for participants to take the next step as women leaders driving change in the region.

He also pledged that the city would actively support women's economic participation and career development, and work to create an environment where women can freely pursue new challenges and demonstrate their full potential.
