Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul will run a "Parent College-Prep Coaching" program for parents of middle and high school students on July 18 and 25 at the Dongdaemun-gu Education Support Center, district Mayor Choi Dong-min announced.
The program was designed to help parents more systematically support their children's school life and college preparation in line with the rollout of the high school credit system and the sweeping changes to the 2028 college admissions regime. The 2028 admissions cycle — which applies to students currently in their second year of high school — is tied to the 2022 revised national curriculum, the full introduction of the high school credit system, a five-tier school grade rating structure and an integrated college entrance exam format, all of which require parents to have an accurate understanding of the landscape.
A former college admissions officer will lead the sessions, explaining key topics in accessible terms: the basics of college admissions terminology and admissions types, how to read a student school record, the high school credit system and course selection in practice, and how admissions officers evaluate a student school record.
Sessions will be held twice on July 18 and twice on July 25, for a total of four sessions, each open to 50 participants — 200 in all.
The instructors will be Kang Hye-jeong, a former admissions officer at the University of Seoul, and Park A-reum, a former admissions officer at Sungshin Women's University. Drawing on their hands-on admissions experience, both will present the college evaluation perspective in a way that parents can readily understand.
"The newly launched ninth elected-term Dongdaemun-gu administration aims to provide education that prepares both children's futures and the city's future together, and we will do our utmost to deliver tailored education support that parents can trust," district Mayor Choi said. "As college admissions systems and high school curricula change rapidly, the district will serve as a reliable guide so that parents can work alongside their children to map out their career paths and school lives based on accurate information."
Choi added that the program "goes beyond a simple admissions briefing — it is structured so that parents can easily grasp the core content essential to preparing their children for college." He said the district would continue to expand tailored college-prep support services centered on the Dongdaemun-gu Education Support Center, reducing the burden of private tutoring while strengthening college-readiness grounded in public education.
Dongdaemun-gu also plans to hold a "2027 Early Admissions College Information Fair" on Aug. 1 at the multipurpose auditorium on the second floor of the district office. Eighteen universities from Seoul and the greater metropolitan area will participate, offering one-on-one consultations with each school's admissions officers for local college applicants and their parents ahead of the early admissions season. Registration will open on a first-come, first-served basis starting Monday, July 13.
