Mapo-gu District Chief Yu Dong-gyun attended a concert Wednesday afternoon at Mapo Art Center's Art Hall Mac to mark the 120th anniversary of Sungmun Middle and High School.
The event was organized to celebrate the school's 120th founding anniversary and brought together officials from the school foundation, alumni association members, current students, graduates and local residents to reflect on Sungmun's history and traditions.
Following a commemorative ceremony, the Sungeum Choir, the Sungmun Alumni Chorus and the Sungmun Orchestra performed, adding to the significance of the occasion.
In his congratulatory address, Yu said "120 years of history is not simply a measure of time, but a testament to Sungmun's journey — one that began with the conviction that education would build this nation." He added that he hoped the school would "continue to serve as a pillar of strength for our children to dream bigger, as a distinguished private institution representing this community."
Yu also said he would "do his utmost to create the best possible education environment so that the youth of Mapo can nurture greater dreams and prepare for the future."
