IGC, five resident universities sign MOU with Stats ChipPAC Korea to develop semiconductor talent

Incheon Global Campus (IGC) has partnered with Stats ChipPAC Korea, a global leader in outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT), to develop specialized semiconductor talent and deepen industry-academia cooperation.

The Incheon Global Campus Operation Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding on global talent development and industry-academia cooperation with Stats ChipPAC Korea on Wednesday, alongside the five universities based at IGC.

The signatory universities were the State University of New York Korea (Stony Brook), the Fashion Institute of Technology Korea, George Mason University Korea, Ghent University Global Campus and the University of Utah Asia Campus.

Under the agreement, the institutions will run on-site training and internship programs to cultivate job-ready talent for the semiconductor industry, with top graduates offered preferential hiring opportunities.

The partners also agreed to jointly carry out technology and business projects in semiconductor back-end processing, co-develop curricula that reflect industry needs, and expand seminars and academic exchanges through their overseas university networks.

The collaboration is expected to widen pathways for talented graduates of local universities to enter Incheon-based companies, helping to reduce the outflow of young talent from the region and strengthen the competitiveness of Incheon's semiconductor industry ecosystem.

"IGC brings together people of diverse nationalities and capabilities, which gives it strong potential to lead the future semiconductor industry," said Im Sang-hyun, president of Stats ChipPAC Korea. "We will actively support students in building practical experience through on-site training and joint research so they can grow into globally competitive professionals."

Byun Joo-young, president of the Incheon Global Campus Operation Foundation, said the agreement marks "the first step in IGC's evolution beyond an educational institution into an industry-academia-research cooperation platform that connects companies and research institutes." She added that IGC would continue to expand partnerships with Incheon's key anchor companies to build an innovation ecosystem capable of driving future industries.

Meanwhile, IGC plans to expand its industry-academia cooperation programs linking global universities with local industries and continuously strengthen its talent development foundation for advanced future industries, under its "IGC 2030" vision of becoming a world-leading innovation platform for industry, academia and research.
