North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly unveils legislative vision for 13th term

The North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly on Thursday laid out a new legislative direction, with Assembly Speaker Kim Hui-su, Deputy Speakers Lee Chun-u and Park Sun-beom, Assembly Management Committee Chairman Choe Byeong-geun and all 64 assembly members taking part.

The assembly plans to strengthen policy development and legislative functions to respond to a rapidly changing administrative environment and diverse policy demands, while professionalizing the organizational and legislative support systems that underpin those efforts.

It will also expand policy outreach and communication so that residents can more easily understand and engage with the assembly's activities.

Particularly amid the recent economic slowdown and rising prices, which have increased the burden on residents' livelihoods, the assembly has set economic recovery as its top legislative priority.

The assembly will step up oversight to ensure that budgets directly tied to residents' daily lives are executed without disruption, while incorporating diverse on-the-ground opinions into policy to produce measures that people can tangibly feel.

As the representative body of provincial residents, the assembly also pledged to faithfully carry out its core roles — enacting ordinances, reviewing budgets, and checking and monitoring the executive branch — while placing greater emphasis on generating policy results through cooperation rather than confrontation.

To that end, it will strengthen cooperative frameworks with the executive branch, including expanding personnel exchanges, to build a foundation for mutual benefit, and will work toward becoming a trusted assembly through principled oversight and responsible collaboration.

"All 64 members of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly will concentrate every legislative effort on realizing the hopes and happiness of 2.6 million provincial residents, grounded in principle and conviction, and on standing firmly by their side especially in difficult times," Speaker Kim said.
