Daegu city announced Friday it is accepting nominations for the 46th Daegu Municipal Culture Award through July 30.
The award recognizes citizens who have contributed to promoting local arts and culture and the creative preservation and development of traditional culture.
Nominations are open across eight categories: Academic I (humanities and social sciences), Academic II (natural sciences), Arts I (spatial arts), Arts II (performing arts), literature, media, education and sports.
Eligible candidates include those who have lived in Daegu for at least two years as of the announcement date Friday, those who lived in the city for at least two years before their death, and residents of other cities, provinces or countries who have made notable contributions to Daegu's cultural development — provided they have a clear record of achievement in their respective category.
Nominations must be submitted with a letter of recommendation from the head of a relevant institution or organization in the applicable category, along with a merit report and supporting documentation, either in person at Daegu's Culture and Arts Policy Division or by registered mail.
The city will select final recipients through a merit review committee and plans to present the awards in early October.
"We ask citizens, local institutions and organizations to take an active interest and submit nominations, so that the unsung contributors who have dedicated themselves to building the foundation of Daegu as a city of culture and elevating its standing can be recognized," said Hwangbo Ran, director of Daegu's Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau.
