Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and Korea Securities Finance received the Financial Services Commission chairman's commendation for contributions to financial security. In the individual category, Kakao Bank CEO Yoon Ho-young, Citibank Korea Executive Director Jang Eun-young and DB Insurance Division Head Kim Dae-hee were among the honorees.
FSC Chairman Lee Eok-won presented the awards to two financial institutions and three individuals recognized for enhancing the reliability and stability of the financial industry. The ceremony, hosted by the Financial Security Institute on Friday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul, was attended by CEOs of major financial firms.
"Close collaboration between the government and the private sector is essential to effectively counter new digital threats," Lee said. He pledged to "continuously communicate with the industry to build an AI security framework and pursue steady regulatory improvements to create a safe and trusted digital financial environment."
Lee added that authorities plan to ensure AI security testing under the emergency network-separation relaxation measures — in effect since June — proceeds without disruption, and that eligibility criteria will be revised flexibly to allow more financial firms to participate. He also said the government will move quickly to finalize and announce a plan to fully lift network-separation requirements for firms that have demonstrated sufficient AI and cybersecurity capabilities.
Lee also pledged to push forward key legislative initiatives, saying the government would work to secure swift National Assembly passage of a proposed amendment to the Electronic Financial Transactions Act. The amendment includes the introduction of punitive surcharges and compulsory fines, stronger authority for chief information security officers and enhanced consumer disclosure requirements. Preparations for a draft Digital Finance Safety Act will also be accelerated, he said.
Information Security Day is a statutory commemoration established at the pan-government level following a large-scale cyberattack on July 7, 2009, that caused widespread outages at government agencies and financial institutions. The day was created to promote cybersecurity awareness and make information protection part of everyday life.
