Iljin Electric wins W84.5b UK ultra-high-voltage cable contract

Iljin Electric said Friday it has won a contract to build part of a 400-kilovolt underground transmission line as part of a strategic project to reinforce a 180-kilometer ultra-high-voltage power network connecting eastern and southeastern England.

The contract is valued at approximately 41.77 million pounds (84.5 billion won).

The project is designed to carry large-scale offshore wind power generated in eastern England to the more densely populated southeastern region, where electricity demand is concentrated.

Iljin Electric said the contract marks its recognition as a credible supplier in the highly competitive British power market. A company official said the win "proves our ultra-high-voltage cable technology in the UK market at a pivotal moment of transformation in its power infrastructure," adding that the company plans to "actively pursue upcoming large-scale grid expansion projects and extend our market reach across Europe."

Iljin Electric has also been building momentum in Southeast Asia. In June, the company signed a contract to supply 275 kV ultra-high-voltage cables for a data center project in Malaysia, covering a total length of 54 kilometers and valued at about 62.1 billion won.
