Guarantee fees cut by up to 0.8 percentage points
Hana Bank said Friday it will provide 100 billion won ($66.5 million) in guaranteed loans to small and medium-sized enterprises in the semiconductor materials, parts and equipment sector, in partnership with the Korea Technology Finance Corporation, known as Kibo. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden on semiconductor SMEs and extend support to second- and third-tier suppliers, strengthening the competitiveness of the broader semiconductor industry ecosystem.
Hana Bank and Kibo signed an MOU on "financial support for semiconductor industry scale-up" on Friday. The agreement is designed to spread the growth momentum concentrated among large chipmakers such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix to materials, parts and equipment firms and smaller suppliers, raising the overall competitiveness of the semiconductor industry.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will establish a combined 100 billion won guarantee pool. To help semiconductor companies struggling to raise funds amid prolonged high inflation and high interest rates, Kibo will cut guarantee fees by 0.3 percentage points for three years, while Hana Bank will provide an additional 0.5 percentage point reduction for two years.
Alongside the guaranteed loans, Hana Bank will offer preferential-rate loans tailored to the semiconductor sector and management consulting services. The bank said its aim goes beyond simple financing — it intends to support companies through the entire process of structural improvement and growth, or scale-up. The financial sector is also stepping up productive financing in support of the industry as semiconductor supply chain competition increasingly determines national competitiveness.
"This support is more than just financial supply — it is a co-growth project to strengthen the fundamental capabilities of the semiconductor industry, a core strategic sector for South Korea's future," said Seo Yu-seok, deputy president of Hana Bank. "We will actively back practical financial support not only for semiconductor-related businesses but also for second- and third-tier suppliers of large companies, in line with our commitment to productive finance."
