Korea Land and Housing Corp. (LH) announced Friday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea District Heating Corp. (KDHC) to improve heat efficiency and reduce energy consumption in public rental housing.
The agreement is linked to Korea District Heating's Energy Efficiency Resource Standard (EERS) support project, under which the two organizations will work together to upgrade aging heat-supply facilities in public rental housing complexes and jointly pursue energy efficiency and conservation initiatives.
The EERS support project assigns annual energy-saving targets to energy suppliers and requires them to carry out efficiency-improvement investment projects to meet those targets.
Under the MOU, the two organizations will run a heat efficiency improvement support project targeting LH-managed public rental housing complexes supplied with heat by Korea District Heating. The project aims to upgrade outdated heat-supply facilities — such as those installed in mechanical rooms of public rental housing within district heating zones — to raise heat efficiency and lower energy costs for residents. Following the signing, the two sides plan to select eligible complexes and complete related procedures before the end of the year.
The organizations also plan to conduct joint public awareness campaigns on energy conservation and to continue identifying new cooperative projects aimed at improving energy efficiency.
Jo Gyeong-suk, head of LH's residential welfare division, said the partnership would raise energy efficiency in public rental housing to ease residents' financial burden from management fees and other housing costs, while providing a comfortable and safe living environment. "We will continue to expand a range of cooperative projects to improve energy efficiency and achieve carbon neutrality," she added.
Meanwhile, LH last month showcased a special pavilion themed "Carbon Neutrality as Envisioned by LH" at the Korea Land and Infrastructure Technology Exhibition held at COEX in Seoul.
