'Dune: Part Three' unveils trailer, teaser poster ahead of December release

"Dune: Part Three" has launched its promotional campaign, releasing a teaser poster and second trailer ahead of its theatrical debut.

The film follows Paul (Timothée Chalamet), who has inherited absolute power and must confront the sweeping war and conflict that come with an inescapable destiny. The final chapter of the trilogy is set to reach audiences worldwide in December.

The second trailer and new key art received their world premiere Wednesday at the "Dune: Part Three IMAX Global Fan First Event" in Los Angeles. Released simultaneously around the globe, the trailer drew an outpouring of reactions online, with viewers writing things like "this is why movie theaters exist" and "now I have a reason to make it to December."

Set 17 years after Paul seized control of the empire, the second trailer shows the galactic emperor — wielding absolute power through his ability to see the future — confronting the consequences of his ruthless rule. It also previews the arrival of a new villain, Scytale (Robert Pattinson), who sets his sights on the heart of the empire, and a relationship with Chani (Zendaya) that is careening toward catastrophe.

Particularly striking is a moment near the end of the trailer in which a sandworm halts before Chani as Paul murmurs, "Forgive me for everything I have done" — a line that stokes curiosity about the grand conclusion awaiting the two characters.

The teaser poster is equally arresting: Paul and Chani stand facing each other against the vast, rugged desert of the planet Arrakis. The image captures the charged tension and complicated emotions between two people who once leaned deeply on each other but now find themselves on opposite sides — one the emperor holding the fate of the universe, the other a warrior rising against him.

With the series having scored back-to-back box office hits, global fan anticipation for the concluding chapter is higher than ever. The first film, "Dune," released in 2021, grossed more than $400 million worldwide, while "Dune: Part Two," released in 2024, took in approximately $714.71 million to rank seventh at the global box office that year.

Meanwhile, at the Global Fan First Event that day, Timothée Chalamet made a surprise appearance as a special guest during a conversation with director Denis Villeneuve, sending the audience into a frenzy. The moment he walked out, fans erupted in unison with cries of "Lisan al-Gaib!" Chalamet expressed his gratitude to the crowd, saying he was deeply moved "that something beyond just fans has formed — a single vast community whose hearts have been touched by this work."

He added that "'Dune: Part Three' will be a completely different film that won't repeat the old formula," projecting quiet but unmistakable confidence.
