Park Yuchun's former agency rebuffs claim that legal disputes have been resolved

Singer and actor Park Yuchun's former agency has rebuffed his claim that all legal disputes with the company have been settled.

Logbook said Saturday that "the exclusive contract dispute has not been concluded," adding that the court ruling on the penalty clause claim "was not a decision on whether the exclusive contract remains in force or on the attribution of exclusive rights, but rather a determination that the dispute must be resolved through arbitration proceedings pursuant to the arbitration agreement clause."

The agency further said that "the court's determination that the matter must be resolved through arbitration does not mean the dispute has ended — it merely established the procedure and jurisdiction for resolving it." It added that "the exclusive rights dispute is still ongoing, and the legal dispute arising from the unauthorized departure has likewise not been concluded."

Logbook said it plans to file a disciplinary complaint with the Korean Bar Association against the attorney who distributed what it described as factually inaccurate information in the form of a press release, and warned it would pursue all available civil and criminal legal action over defamation and interference with business operations.

Earlier, Park's Japanese agency issued an official statement on June 30 saying that "all of the various lawsuits that had continued for a long time in South Korea have been concluded."

Park had previously been sued by his former agency for 500 million won ($332,000) in damages over an alleged breach of his exclusive contract. He was also listed among habitual high-value tax delinquents publicly named by the National Tax Service after failing to pay a total of 409 million won in taxes across five counts, including capital gains tax, in 2016.

The agency said "the legal dispute with the former agency has been settled" and that it had submitted an installment payment plan to the National Tax Service. It added that Park "is currently fulfilling his payment obligations in good faith in accordance with an agreement with the authorities" and that full payment of the outstanding taxes is expected to be completed this year.
