Gyeonggi Province issues tropical night advisory for 25 cities and counties

A tropical night advisory has taken effect across 25 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province.

Gyeonggi Province said Sunday it would activate its first heat wave emergency disaster safety headquarters at Level 1 this year, following the issuance of a tropical night advisory for 25 cities and counties in the province, including Hwaseong.

With heat wave special advisories already in effect across the province, the expansion to include a tropical night advisory prompted authorities to raise the heat wave crisis alert to the Serious level and transition from the existing joint task force structure to a full disaster safety headquarters framework starting at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The heat wave crisis alert system has four levels: Level 1 Attention, Level 2 Caution, Level 3 Alert and Level 4 Serious. This is the first time this year Gyeonggi Province has reached the Serious level.

Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae called on each city and county to establish a response posture led by deputy heads of local governments, mobilize all available personnel and resources — including lifestyle support workers and voluntary disaster prevention teams — for on-site heat wave monitoring and protection, suspend outdoor work between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., and ensure that cooling center information is current and that the facilities are operating properly.
