Jin Kyo-hoon, the district mayor of Seoul's Gangseo-gu, on Monday welcomed 35 college students beginning their assignments in the district's 2026 Summer Vacation Administrative Internship program.
"I am impressed that these students chose to apply for the administrative internship despite having so many other things they could have done with their summer break," Jin said. "I hope this becomes a meaningful experience where they can see firsthand what role administration and welfare play in residents' lives and how they make a difference."
He added that he hoped the internship would help students nurture their ambitions and broaden their career horizons. "We will do our best to ensure that even more students have the opportunity to gain solid experience and map out their career paths," he said.
The district office held an orientation for the program that day.
The interns will assist with operations at the district office, neighborhood community centers and general social welfare centers, gaining hands-on experience in public administration and welfare services.
A total of 259 applicants competed for the 35 spots, a ratio of 7.4 to 1. The students will work five days a week, five hours a day, for approximately one month through Aug. 7. Compensation reaches up to 1.45 million won ($962), including meal allowances.
