Girl, 7, dies after being found unconscious at Goyang water park during taekwondo group trip

A 7-year-old girl died after being found unconscious in a wave pool at a water park in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, prompting police to open an investigation.

According to the Ilsan Seobu Police Station, the girl — identified only by her surname initial A — was found face-down in the water while wearing a life jacket at a wave pool in Daehwa-dong, Ilsan Seo-gu, Goyang, at around 12:18 p.m. Saturday.

She was rushed to a hospital in cardiac arrest but died Sunday despite treatment.

The child had visited the water park as part of a group outing organized by a local taekwondo gym.

Police have booked a water park employee and the taekwondo gym's supervising instructor on charges of negligent homicide and are investigating whether safety management protocols were followed and the exact circumstances of the incident.
